Leaving Kingston Upon Thames - mooring
We said a farewell to Kingston Upon Thames as we headed to Molesey Lock to get water and find out where to moor for the next few days.  Susan has to go back to Waltham Abbey to visit her sister for a couple of days so needs to be near a train station.

On the way Susan comments on how much quieter it is today on the river as compared to the frenzied activity of the weekend.  Almost peaceful.

On Sunday, the family walked to Molesey Lock and beyond to find a suitable place to moor but they were all very busy.  However, we are all hopeful that today will mean less boats!!  As we go past Hampton Court Palace we notice that there are a few spaces available today.  We still need to go through the lock and get water (then back again) but fingers crossed.

The lock keepers are very friendly.  The centre garden looks great too.  After completing the lock, I get filled-up with water.  As I turn around Susan notices the posh houseboats.  Lovely!!

To start with I moor up opposite Hampton Court Palace moorings but the family get told by the park enforcement agent for Elmbridge Borough Council that we cannot moor here - despite there being no signs and the Environment Agency Lock Keeper suggested that we could.  Shame, as Pete had already done a bit of gardening and tidied the area!!!  Susan sees her favourite boat named The New Southern Belle - I thought I was her favourite......

We move off and by now, thankfully, there are bigger spaces for me to moor into.

Tonight there is a concert at Hampton Court Palace with Van Morrison.  The family wonder if they will be able to hear it........

After mooring the family go for a walk around Hampton Court Palace and then into Bushy Park where they watch the deer.

Total: 2.5 miles and 2 locks (Molesey Lock twice) - mooring 24 hours free, £5 per night for up to 48 hours after 24 hour period.  Note 60ft boats pay £10.
